The revelation of Fauci's emails and the source of coronavirus in China

With a career as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) in the United States since 1984, Dr. Anthony Fauci was seen as the rational profile of the American government to lead the fight against the pandemic. The possibility of the virus coming from a laboratory in China was branded at the start by Fauci and the corporate media as a 'conspiracy theory'. Even Facebook and other social platforms blocked sharing links containing information about this.

With a new government now in the U.S and Biden as the President, a joint investigation by CNN, Buzzfeed and Washington Post has revealed key information from Dr. Fauci's work-emails during the beginning of the pandemic. It shows that Fauci was aware that the Wuhan Institute of Virology was conducting genetic experiments to increase the lethality of a virus from bats. Other documents linked to Fauci’s emails show also that the National Institute of Health of the United States (NIH), led by Fauci, gave to the Wuhan Institute of Virology $600,000 between 2014 and 2019 to perform laboratory experiments. These funds were administered by a global NGO named EcoHealth Alliance that focuses on improving healthcare technology, and the emails show how its director, Peter Daszak, wrote to Fauci in April 2020 warmly thanking him for the official position of the NIAID about denying the laboratory theory. Then, in December 2020, at a meeting with US State Department, NIAID officials were ordered to not continue investigating the genetic modification programs being carried out in Wuhan to 'avoid drawing unnecessary attention to the funds that the United States had granted to this laboratory’.

The Chinese government has always claimed that the virus came from a seafood market in central Wuhan, and has categorically denied that employees of the Wuhan Institute of Virology were infected before December 2019, the oficial start date of the pandemic. However, a report from US Intelligence Services, previously classified as a Top Secret has revealed that at least three people who worked at the Wuhan Institute of Virology were infected already in November 2019. This is long before the first official cases reported by China.

The laboratory theory does not imply that there was an intentional plan to harm or create biological weapons. There is also not enough evidence to say whether the virus has a purely natural origin or was genetically modified. The virus could simply escape the laboratory from a bat that was being used as an experiment, and thus have both a natural origin and come from a laboratory.

What is clear about Fauci's emails is that:

• He has a long-standing bond of friendship and financial complicity with those in charge of experimenting with bats at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

• He has repeatedly lied publicly about the content of his emails.

• His credibility and conflict of interest in investigating the origin of the virus is seriously damaged.
